The Los Angeles Lakers are in for an interesting summer. After exiting the playoffs in just five games against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Lakers' biggest glaring issue was the lack of a true starting-caliber big man. Rudy Gobert had the best game of his career in the Timberwolves' series-clinching Game 5 win, scoring 27 points while snagging 24 rebounds. ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported that Lakers general manager, Rob Pelinka made calls to the Atlanta Hawks at this past February's trade deadline in hopes of acquiring big man, Onyeka Okongwu before ultimately deciding on a deal with the Charlotte Hornets for Mark Williams, before Williams failed a physical, which forced the trade to be rescinded.

Signings such as Derrick Jones Jr. and Nicolas Batum, along with the trade for Kris Dunn, enabled the Clippers to become the third-best defensive-rated team in the league. With the Los Angeles Lakers looking for trade targets to improve their team, one piece that is interesting heading into the offseason is Rui Hachimura. It's been a slow news stretch for the Los Angeles Lakers lately. Since the Lakers' season ended on April 30 at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves, there hasn't been much to discuss, and there won't be until the NBA Draft at the end of June and subsequent beginning of the new league year in July, when LA will hit the trade and free agent markets. Lakers fans are clamoring for any sort of news concerning Luka Doncic or LeBron James, which makes it unsurprising that a recent photo of Doncic's dinner went wild on social media. Things were looking relatively rosy for the Los Angeles Lakers heading into this year's NBA playoffs. Although they had stumbled a bit over the final five weeks or so of the regular season, they did manage to salvage some momentum by winning seven of 10 games heading into the final game of the schedule, during which head coach JJ Redick sat most of his regulars. After claiming the third seed in the Western Conference, the Lakers were decent favorites to get past the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round and were considered by plenty of people to be legitimate championship contenders.
